The global mobile market for adult content grew by around 36% to an estimated $2.2bn in 2008, driven by streamed subscription services and a burgeoning video chat market, according to a new report from Juniper Research.
Hampshire, UK (PRWEB) February 11, 2009 -- The global mobile market for adult content grew by around 36% to an estimated $2.2bn in 2008, driven by streamed subscription services and a burgeoning video chat market, according to a new report from Juniper Research.
The report found that the increasing prevalence of 3G handsets in many European markets had led to migration away from services offering only text and graphics towards video-based services, resulting in significantly higher ARPU levels.
DisplayBoy collects Juniper Gold Award...
The mobile adult report (http://www.juniperresearch.com/shop/viewreport.php?id=168) also noted that service deployment had accelerated both on and off-portal, enabled by a number of full-service products, most notably DisplayBoy's mobileABC product, the winner of Juniper's Future Mobile Gold Award for Mobile Adult Services. Stefan Kathmeyer, CEO of DisplayBoy GmbH commented: "We are delighted to be awarded the Golden Future Mobile award, particularly since we are receiving it from such a renowned and respected body as Juniper Research. The Future Mobile Awards simply confirms that we are on the right track developing solutions for the mobile internet."
...while Cherrysauce receives Silver
The Silver Award was given to Cherrysauce, for the provision of B2B services and solutions that were among the leading drivers of adult content across a variety of markets during 2008. Julia Dimambro, Managing Director and Founder said: "Cherry Media is thrilled, after more than 6 years service to the Mobile Entertainment Industry, to receive our second Juniper award, which makes the 10th award in our trophy cabinet in total. Juniper's gratefully received recognition vindicates our position that consumer context converts content."
Juniper Research assesses the current and future status of mobile adult services based on interviews, case studies and analysis from representatives of some of the leading organisations in the mobile adult industry. The report includes historical, current and forecast market sizing through to 2013, including regional and global data on service adoption (split by text-based, one-off downloads, subscription and videochat services), usage levels, user numbers, service pricing, user spend and end-user revenues.
Other findings from the Juniper report include:
• Videochat services will become the largest revenue-generator for mobile adult content by 2013.
• Western Europe will remain the largest regional market for mobile adult services throughout the forecast period.
• Revenues from the US remain constrained by operator reluctance to introduce age verification systems.
